Hunting
The abundance of wildlife in the Chapleau andsurrounding area offers many hunting opportunities for the firearm and archery hunter alike. Some of these include black bear, moose and small game such as grouse and waterfowl.
All non-resident black bear and moose hunters arerequired to use the services of a tourist outfitter. Many outfitters in the area offer a variety of hunting packages to accommodate all types of hunting depending on the needs and desires of the individual hunter including drive-in, fly-in, and boat-in accommodations. For specific details regarding the types of hunting packages available please contact individual outfitters in the area as listed.
Bear Hunting
In Ontario there is only a bear hunt in the fall.The fall season now starts in mid-August and runs to October 15th.The archery and firearm seasons coincide.
There is a large population of black bear in the Chapleau area, which gives the hunter an excellent chance of a successful hunt. Most bear are hunted from a baited stand which provides an opportunity to determine both the size and sex of the bear as well as a chance to view a number of bears.
Moose Hunting
The Chapleau area also offers both an archery anda firearm season for moose. The archery season starts in early September and runs until early in October. The firearm season beginsin early October and runs through to Novermber 15th.
Due to limited numbers of adult moose tags available for the non-resident hunter, your moose hunt should be planned well in advance of the hunting season to assure the availability of an adult tag. Please contact individual members for more information and tag availability.
