Spring

In late April and early May the ice is black and just waiting for one strong windy day to blow the last ice crystals off the lake. The eagles and loons come home, the bears wake up and the rivers are raging. In May, walleye season opens. Fishing, bear hunting and canoe tripping are the main attractions to the outdoors enthusiasts at this time of year. Weather still can be cool so check with your area outfitter on proper clothing before traveling.

    Fishing
Walleye, whitefish, northern pike, trout and bass fishing are all excellent in the spring. Walleye season opens on the third Saturday of May. The water is still quite cold this time of year so fishing is great. You may beat the black flies this early but be prepared for bugs anyway. You'll need to bring head nets and bug dope. The weather can be quite cold in May or unseasonably warm in June. Be prepared for both. Fly-out or drive-in to any of the countless wilderness lakes and rivers in the area. We guarantee a quality experience with some of the best fishing in the world.

    Canoeing
In the Spring Chapleau area waterways come alive with the challenge of fast water and superb scenery. From the novice to the expert there is a river with your name on it. Consult with our outfitters for one that fits your skill level and distance.
