Winter
Chapleau is a winter wonderland with an abundance of snow. Enjoy a winter holiday cross country or downhill skiing, ice fishing, winter camping or snowmobiling. The Chapleau Arctic Watershed Snowmobile Club and Foleyet's 101 Trailmaker Inc. presently have a network of 1100 plus kilometres round trip of groomed trails open from late December to early April. Enter our Northern Pike Derby in mid February and join fishing enthusiasts from around the region when they travel to Chapleau or Sultan for a chance to jig for a prize fish.
Other Winter Activities
Ice fishing is another sport greatly enjoyed in the Chapleau Area and you are invited to experience this invigorating way of catching a few. Fish derbies take place throughout the year and winter is no exception. Sultan and Chapleau both host exciting and popular fish derbies in February. Chapleau's Pike derby is two days of fun filled excitement where you could win up to $40,000 dollars for the largest pike and many more numerous prizes for just entering. Nothing beats augering a hole in the ice and dipping a line in, while enjoying the beauty of nature, the clean air and a hot cup of coffe.
Downhill skiing is a thrill many are familiar with, however the Chapleau Area offers hundreds of kilometres of cross-country ski trails.
While gliding through the northern woods on groomed trails, don't be surprised if you catch a glimpse of an unaware fox, rabbit, partridge or other wildlife.
The least you'll see are their prints in the snow.
Of course winter fun wouldn't be complete without ice skating, curling, tobagganing or dogsledding. Chapleau and Area offers all these activities throughout the winter.
